Dumbing down

For a few days I've been thinking about this. I think it was Mandy(still don't have a clue how to make a clicky) who commented that someone said American idol was dumbing down of America, I laughed, but it stuck with me.
A couple days ago I borrowed my 20yr old cousin's Ipod. Now I'm not a music fan, I mean I like a beat to work out to, I sometimes like background noise, But I do Not have a favorite song, Type of music, or artist. So I was clueless as to what to expect. What I did not expect was bad english. Then a my 5 yr old godson was singing" lolipop" (I think that was the name of it) For those who don't know this is a song is about a women licking her boyfriend/bootycall/babydaddy private parts like a lolipop.
I wondering If music can really dumb down America, but think about with with songs filled with bad english is it a wonder that Ebonics it the spoken language of the young folk. With songs full of violence, can you be suprised with the fighting? With songs detailing sexual activity is it a wonder that there is so many teen babymommas and babydaddies running around have booty calls with the ho for down the screet?Fo Realz .
Now dont get me wrong Music labels and artist are not the debil(devil you know from the waterboy)Movies aren't much better.
Until I figure out what is what I will be grateful my daughter is singing Twinkle twinkle lil star, My Girl, And your so beautiful. Maybe I'm old, and I should go back to making my blanket. I don't even know the reason for this post, So I'll stop typing after I say Fo shizzle My Dizzle

My son listens to a pop music station as he falls asleep. It's soft rock, and usually pretty mild. I'm not sure what they listen to at school, but in the car, a Britney Spears song came on. I went to change the channel, and my son said "Wait - I know this song!"

Agreed. My daughter has a pretty wide variety of music on her iPod - everything from Patsy Cline to Casting Crowns to Boston to Taylor Swift. My husband, though, has listened to every song to assure no offensive language/story.
